Laurie Jane Dodd Hill

In Memory of Laurie Jane Dodd Hill

Laurie Jane Dodd Hill, of Oldsmar, FL went home to be with the Lord on Feb. 13, 2023.  She passed away peacefully at Suncoast Hospice with her family & loving son, Austin, by her side.  She was a loving mother and sister and a talented artist & clothing designer whose life touched many.  Laurie was born into the military family of William and Florence Dodd in Augsburg, Germany in 1952.  Her early years were spent wherever her father’s career took the family.  She spent her formative years in Sparta, New Jersey, a town she would come to consider her original home.  In the summer of 1974, she moved to Florida with her parents and made the Tampa Bay region her home for the remainder of her years.

As a teen, Laurie was a talented artist and an athlete.  She excelled in media such as painting and drawing and demonstrated an amazing ability to make her own clothing, often of her own design.  She sometimes created a new outfit in the afternoon to wear the same evening.  As an athlete she rode in equestrian competitions and joined Sparta’s Lake Mohawk Waterski Club, where she participated in many holiday ski-shows, including in New York City’s Central Park.  She carried her athleticism into adulthood when she developed a love for competitive figure skating.  She competed and won awards at national competitions and passed her love of the sport on to new generations as a coach and teacher at Tampa Bay Skating Academy.  She also carried her artistic skills into adulthood as a designer and producer of beautiful skating outfits under the banner of “Laurie’s Original Skating Apparel”.

Laurie is survived by her son, Austin Hill; grandson, Brayden; her siblings Sandra Hand, Deborah Martines, and Steve Dodd; generations of nieces & nephews; and Dodd, Treadwell, Dirlam, & Leedom cousins.

All who knew and loved Laurie are encouraged to donate in her memory to: Suncoast Hospice Foundation, 5771 Roosevelt Blvd., Clearwater, FL 37760.
