James “Jim” Edward Laurent

James “Jim” Edward Laurent, 83, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 3, 2023. He was born on April 24, 1940 to the late Marvin Alvin Laurent Sr. and late Zeda Howell Laurent in Beaumont, Texas. Jim found his passion for service in the Army, enlisting at age 16.  He served as an Airborne Ranger, and was decorated with a Sharpshooter Badge and a Medal of Good Conduct.  After his time in service to his country he finished his GED and went on to earn two Masters of Arts degrees, as well as a PhD in Educational Psychology.  He enjoyed careers in ministry, counseling, and education. His favorite job was as Director of the Florida Sheriff Youth Ranch of Manatee County. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Tempie Roberts Laurent, his daughters Amanda (Chuck) Bryant and Michelle (Robin) Laurent Pratt, as well as granddaughter Morgan Takacs. He is also survived by a brother, Marvin Laurent Jr., and his beloved schnauzer, Ashes. Jim is now with his parents, sister Betty Laurent Johnson, and sons Dwayne and Jason Laurent in paradise. Jim always described himself as “blessed beyond what I deserve”, and to have known him was a blessing in like.

In honor of Jim, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. The family would like to extend their heart felt gratitude to the staff of Menorah Life located in St. Petersburg, FL for their devoted care. A service will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, FL at 9:30 AM on Labor Day, September 4, 2023.
