Obituary:
George Danton Finch III, known affectionately as “Papa,” passed away on March 19, 2024, in Tampa, Florida, at the age of 77. He was born on September 12, 1946, in Warren, Ohio, to George Finch Jr. and Margaret Parker Finch.
George was a retired administrator from Hillsborough County schools. He dedicated his career to education and positively impacted the lives of many.
He was a man of faith and played the organ at Hillsdale Baptist Church. George found solace and joy in worshipping and serving his community through music.
In his free time, George loved watching the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Rays, and the Florida Gators. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Ellie Grace, Zoie Jayne, and Greyson Matthew. George was a loving husband to Carol Reed Finch and a caring father to Valerie and son-in-law Andrew.
He is also survived by his brother Dr. Thomas Finch, sister Judith Finch Young and husband Michael, and his brother Paul Finch and wife Vicki. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Jr. and Margaret.
No public memorial service is planned as the family will hold a private service to honor George’s life. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to Creekside Church https://creeksidetampa.org or Gideon’s International https://www.gideons.org to spread the love of Christ.
The Abbey Crematory in Largo, Florida, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
George will be remembered for his dedication to education, his love for his family, and his unwavering faith. May he rest in peace.

Mr. Finch taught 5th grade at Howland Central Elementary. He was pictured recently with his class at Howland High School Class of 1976. May he rest in peace.
