Phil Edwards, 69 of Largo, Florida passed away on August 30, 2023 after enduring a long illness. Throughout it all, he maintained a positive outlook and enjoyed life.
Phil loved to politely debate politics and blogged daily encouraging friends to share viewpoints. He enjoyed watching Jeopardy nightly, going head-to-head with the reigning champion.
Growing up with music in his home, he loved writing song lyrics, composing and recording. Phil was in a band most of his life, ever the frontman, he sang while shredding guitar riffs on his beloved Epiphone.
Above all else was family. Phil was a home-school teacher, soccer coach, and caregiver for his ailing mother in her later years. He loved simple pleasures: sitting on the beach in the early morning, having coffee on the driveway with neighbors, eating breakfast for any meal, watching old black & white movies, and listening to big band tunes from the 40’s.
His entire career was spent in public health administration with the State of West Virginia. He was particularly proud of his work rolling out a children’s dentistry program across the state.
Phil is survived by his wife Anne Norva Meyer; daughter Taylor Danielle Edwards; son LiMin Dang Edwards; granddaughters Kylee Elizabeth Edwards and Kianna Kennedy Woodruff; and was predeceased by his sister Linda Rains.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Nov. 12, 2023 in St. Petersburg, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, Wounded Warrior, or a local animal rescue shelter.
