Gerald “Jerry” Meredith, born on May 19, 1935, in Ovid, Michigan, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2025, in Largo, Florida. He was a proud graduate of Ovid High School, Class of 1953. In 1954, he joined the United States Army and served his country during the Korean War from 1954-1956. Jerry dedicated his life to his family and he spent his career in education, serving as a coach, teacher, assistant principal, principal, and ultimately retiring as the superintendent of Concord Public Schools. An avid sports enthusiast, Jerry was a loyal supporter of Michigan State University and proud to be a Spartan. He played baseball for MSU and graduated in 1959 earning his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education. He enjoyed golfing, and achieved the great accomplishment of golfing in all 50 states. He was also a competitive poker player and loved his trips to the casino. Gerald also enjoyed singing in the church choir and entertaining audiences on the stage. Singing brought him joy, and he often shared his talent with family and friends.
Gerald married his wife Sarah on June 8, 2007. They spent seventeen beautiful years together traveling the country and living life to its fullest.
Gerald loved his entire family deeply and took great pride in every single one of them. He is survived by his children, Lori Ernest, Terri (Brad) Buiwitt, Jackie (Scott) Shenk, and Jerry (Heather) Meredith. He was also the proud “Papa” of many grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Above all, Gerald cherished the time he spent with his loved ones, creating lasting memories that will be treasured forever. He is remembered for his warmth, humor, wisdom and an incredible life well-lived. Gerald will be profoundly missed by his family and friends.
A Celebration of Gerald’s life will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Oakhurst United Methodist Church at 13400 Park Blvd. in Seminole, Florida. The family will receive friends at 2:00 PM.
An additional Celebration of Gerald’s life will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the United Church of Ovid at 131 W Front Street in Ovid, Michigan. The family will receive friends at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Ovid, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oakhurst United Methodist Church or the United Church of Ovid.
Attendees of Gerald’s services are encouraged to wear green and white or Michigan State University apparel in his honor.
