Barbara Louise Corry

Barbara Louise Corry, aged 90, passed peacefully into Heaven on Monday, November 6, 2017 in Seminole, Fla.  She was born February 2, 1927, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Charles and Eleanor Swift.

After a childhood in Chicago, Barbara left farm life in Elburn, Ill., to attend the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City where she met her photographer husband, Christopher Corry.  Together they raised nine children, moving from NYC to Darien, Conn., and then to Seminole, Fla.  Nothing was more important to Barbara than faith in Jesus Christ, studying His Word, and sharing what it means with others. She also loved quiet times in libraries, walks on the Gulf beaches, and classic movies.  While she was well known as a mother to seven sons and two daughters, Barbara will also be remembered for her stewardship, faithfulness, compassion, unconditional love, and ever-present, sweet smile.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Robert Swift, her son Patrick Corry, three grandsons and a great grandson.  Barbara is survived by eight of her children, Charles (Jan) Corry of Brattleboro, Vt., Daniel Corry of Santa Cruz, Cal., Robert (Kim) Corry of Clearwater, Fla., Mary Corry of Austin, Tex., Stephen Corry of Seminole, Fla., John (Patty) Corry of Encino, Cal., David (Suzanne) Corry of Lynchburg, Va. and Rebecca (Jason) Overholser of Martinsburg, W. Va., 14 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

There will be a private remembrance for family members in Seminole on November 18 followed by a time of receiving close friends.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Barbara Corry’s name can be made to Freedom Square Resident Holiday Gift Fund c/o John O’Farrrell 10901 Johnson Blvd., Unit J509, Seminole, FL 33772 in gratitude for the kind staff who provided Barbara loving care in the final year of her life.
